Synopsis
The unsolved case of the Zodiac Serial Killer is as compelling as "The Silence of the Lambs," "Kiss the Girls," or any contemporary crime thriller. In the late 60's and early 70's this serial killer single-handedly terrorized both men and women in San Francisco and Northern California. Principally a killer of young couples, he was definitively tied to at least 7 murders, although it is thought that he could have killed up to 30 more. As brilliant as he was evil, the Zodiac's modus operandi was to call the police himself to report his own murders, and then disappear without a trace. He became known as "Zodiac" because he sent letters and cryptograms to both the newspapers and the police, taunting them with his elusive yet visible presence. Murders with the Zodiac's singular imprint seemed to suddenly halt in the mid 1970's, and the case is still open. He could be dead, or he could have simply changed his way of killing... Is he still out there?
Lawrence Block, Edgar Award-winning author and best-selling crime fiction writer, poses his own solution to the case of the Zodiac.
