Synopsis
THE KECKSBURG STORY: On an unseasonably warm night in December of 1965, an unidentified object was tracked by radar as coming in from Canada, changing course several times over the middle Northwest of America, and finally, falling to earth in a patch of woods in Kecksburg, PA - a tiny, tight-knit agricultural/mining community at the foothills of the Allegheny Ridge. Hundreds of people saw the "star on fire," in the words of one boy witness, as it fell, slowly and in a controlled manner. Many others saw the mysterious cloud of blue smoke, smelled the "sulfur-like odor," and saw the mysterious, arching neon-blue lights flashing out from the middle of the woods.
The official explanation from the government about Kecksburg is that the thing that fell to Earth was a meteor that was never recovered. So did such a meteor crash - as monumental scientific news in 1965 as it is today - never make the news? What happened to said meteor? The government also denies that what fell to earth was a piece of the Russian satellite, Cosmos 96, which fell to earth a little more than 12 hours before the Kecksburg crash. Are they lying about that, too? Or was the object, as described by the handful of Kecksburg firemen who saw it up close, something not manufactured by our species, or on our planet?
